The company was founded on the remnant of the Henry Ford company and was named after the 17th-century French explorer Antoine Laumet de la Mothe, Sieur de Cadillac,founder of Detroit .
From its early stages, Cadillac aimed for precision engineering, luxury design, making it to be of one the finest cars in US. It was the first manufacturer of a fully enclosed cab in 1910, and in 1912 was first to incorporate an electrical system enabling starting, ignition, and lighting.
